• Wear a helmet – Helmets are required when riding a bike or e-bike. They are strongly recommended when riding an e-scooter.
• Check your brakes – Make sure your brakes are working properly before riding.
• Use lights in low visibility – Use appropriate front and rear lights when riding at night or when visibility is poor.
• Stay visible – Bikes must have the required reflectors. If your pedals do not have reflectors, reflective material is required when riding at night.
• Keep left – When riding on the road, keep as far left as is safe.
• Respect others – Follow road signs and traffic rules, and give way to pedestrians when using shared paths.

Keep your bike safe and running smoothly with regular care. Check the tyres, brakes, drivetrain and key components regularly, keep the bike clean and dry, and make sure all bolts and fittings are secure. Lubricate the chain when required, and have your bike professionally serviced if you notice unusual noise, loose components or braking issues.
