AB Bikes Warranty Policy

Last Updated: 6 October 2026

AB Bikes provides warranty coverage for products purchased from AB Bikes, subject to the terms below and your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (CGA).

1. General Products Warranty

For bicycles, non-electric products, mechanical products, bicycle parts, accessories, and other applicable products that are not covered by the Electric & Rechargeable Products Warranty below, AB Bikes provides a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase against manufacturing defects and faults arising under normal and reasonable use.

The warranty covers defects in materials or workmanship that affect the normal function of the product.

Warranty Exclusions

The warranty does not cover problems caused by:

  • accidents, crashes, falls, or collisions;
  • misuse, abuse, or neglect;
  • use outside the intended purpose of the product;
  • incorrect assembly, installation, adjustment, or maintenance where this caused the issue;
  • unauthorised modifications or repairs;
  • unauthorised servicing;
  • use of non-approved or incompatible parts where they caused the issue;
  • stunt riding, racing, or other abnormal use;
  • commercial, rental, hire, or excessive use unless specifically agreed by AB Bikes;
  • improper storage or transportation;
  • water damage or use in conditions outside the product's intended operating conditions;
  • external impact or damage;
  • normal wear and tear;
  • consumable or replaceable items, including tyres, inner tubes, brake pads, chains, cables, grips, pedals, saddles, and similar items, unless the issue is caused by a manufacturing defect; or
  • cosmetic damage that does not affect the product's function or safety.

2. Electric & Rechargeable Products Warranty

This warranty applies to electric and rechargeable products, including e-bikes, electric scooters, electric cargo bikes, and other products containing rechargeable batteries or significant electrical systems.

For applicable electric vehicles, the warranty period is:

1 year or 2,000 km, whichever comes first, from the date of purchase.

For other electric or rechargeable products that are not measured by kilometres, the applicable warranty period will be as specified for that product or in the product documentation.

The warranty covers manufacturing defects and faults arising under normal and reasonable use.

Where applicable, coverage may include:

  • rechargeable battery;
  • motor;
  • controller;
  • display;
  • charger;
  • electrical wiring and electrical components; and
  • other original non-consumable electrical components.

Battery Degradation

Normal lithium-ion battery degradation over time and through normal use is not considered a manufacturing defect.

Battery capacity naturally decreases with charging cycles, age, usage, storage conditions, temperature, and other factors.

3. Electric & Rechargeable Product Exclusions

The warranty does not cover problems caused by:

  • misuse, abuse, or neglect;
  • stunt riding, racing, or abnormal use;
  • commercial, rental, hire, or excessive use unless specifically agreed by AB Bikes;
  • incorrect assembly or installation where this caused the issue;
  • unauthorised modifications or repairs;
  • unauthorised electrical, firmware, or software modifications;
  • use of non-approved or incompatible batteries, chargers, controllers, components, or accessories where they caused the issue;
  • unauthorised servicing or repairs;
  • crashes, collisions, falls, impacts, or accidental damage;
  • incorrect charging or charging practices;
  • water ingress or water damage;
  • improper storage or transportation;
  • use outside the product's intended operating conditions;
  • normal wear and tear;
  • normal battery degradation;
  • consumable items; or
  • cosmetic damage that does not affect the product's function or safety.

4. Warranty Assessment

All warranty claims are subject to assessment by AB Bikes and, where appropriate, the relevant supplier or manufacturer.

We may request:

  • proof of purchase;
  • product serial number;
  • photos or videos;
  • a description of the problem;
  • information about how and when the problem occurred; and
  • other information reasonably required to assess the claim.

A physical inspection or testing of the product may be required.

A warranty claim is not considered approved until the product has been assessed and the issue has been confirmed as covered by the applicable warranty or the CGA.

5. Warranty Remedy

If a product is confirmed to have a manufacturing defect or other fault covered by the applicable warranty, AB Bikes may provide an appropriate remedy, which may include:

  • repair;
  • replacement of a component;
  • replacement of the product;
  • exchange; or
  • another remedy required or permitted by law.

Repair or replacement of a product or component does not automatically restart or extend the original warranty period unless required by applicable law.

6. Warranty Return and Shipping Costs

Where a warranty claim is approved, AB Bikes will handle reasonable return shipping costs in accordance with the applicable warranty terms and the CGA.

If a claim is rejected because the issue is not covered by the warranty and is not otherwise covered by the CGA, the customer may be responsible for return shipping, inspection, or other reasonable costs where permitted by law.

Please contact AB Bikes before returning a product so that we can provide the appropriate return instructions.

7. Warranty Processing Time

Warranty claims may require time for:

  • product inspection;
  • fault diagnosis;
  • testing;
  • obtaining replacement parts;
  • repair;
  • communication with the supplier or manufacturer; or
  • arranging a replacement product.

We will work to process warranty claims as efficiently as reasonably possible.

8. Original Purchaser

Unless otherwise required by law, our express warranty applies to the original purchaser and is not transferable to another person.

Proof of purchase may be required.

9. Bicycle Assembly

Where a bicycle is assembled by AB Bikes, our team will complete the assembly according to the applicable product requirements.

Where a bicycle is assembled by the customer or another third party, any issue caused by incorrect assembly, adjustment, installation, or modification may not be covered by the warranty.

This does not affect defects that are otherwise covered by the CGA.

10. Proper Use and Care

Customers are responsible for using, charging, storing, transporting, and maintaining products in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and intended use.

Failure to follow the manufacturer's instructions may affect warranty coverage where it causes or contributes to the problem.

11. Consumer Guarantees Act

Nothing in this Warranty Policy is intended to exclude, restrict, or replace any rights or remedies you may have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or other applicable New Zealand law.

Where the CGA applies, your statutory rights will continue to apply regardless of the express warranty period stated above.
